Private Investigator Certificate program ranks among Top 5 in nation

From a UNT News Service press release

UNT’s Private Investigator Certificate program, which began in 2010, has been ranked as one of the top five best private investigation training programs in the country by, a national website providing information on private investigators.

"The success of this program is a team effort," says Scott Belshaw, executive director of the program and assistant professor of criminal justice. "It starts with the founding board members all the way to the faculty. Each faculty member brings to the table a diverse and unique perspective of the private investigations industry and how to be successful in it. That, along with the guidance and support from UNT's Professional Development Institute and Department of Criminal Justice, is the reason for its current and continued success."

UNT's program is the only such program approved by the state of Texas to allow students to immediately take the state private investigator licensing exam.

UNT's Private Investigator Certificate program is taught by professional faculty, attorneys and practitioners in the field of private investigation. UNT's program not only trains participants in the theory and practice of private investigations, but also includes a business education component. After completing the program, students are able to launch their own private investigations businesses, or work in fields such as insurance, law and business.
