President V. Lane Rawlins and Provost Warren Burggren react to the announcement of the $22 million pledged gift from UNT alumnus Charn Uswachoke.
I am excited to bring you even more great news. We just announced that UNT has received a $22 million pledged gift -- the largest so far in our history -- from alumnus and entrepreneur Charn Uswachoke. This landmark gift will benefit our students by enhancing learning and scholarship while helping the entire university move closer to its goal of becoming one of the nation's best universities. Watch a video of the announcement.
President V. Lane Rawlins and Charn Uswachoke made the announcement via video conference between UNT and Thailand on Aug. 15.
The power of Mr. Uswachoke's gift comes not just from its size and breadth, but also from its direct impact on our students. More than anything, it will help us fulfill our ultimate pledge to give our students the high-quality, transformative education they deserve. Mr. Uswachoke's $22 million pledged gift will be divided among the College of Music, the College of Engineering and the College of Business, with almost half directly supporting students through scholarships and other opportunities.
I hope that where Mr. Uswachoke leads, others will follow. Already, UNT has had a historic summer with important gifts and a sponsorship, and I hope that these milestones will inspire others to support our progress.
Mr. Uswachoke has long been committed to our students and the university. I'm deeply touched by his generosity and his unwavering faith in what UNT is and what we will become. He believes as strongly as we do in our vision to become a major public research university offering the best undergraduate education in Texas. I know that together -- students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends -- we will forge ahead in excellence.
