Former UNT student Don Henley clinched a Grammy nomination Dec. 7, and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, a band that includes UNT alumnus Jeff Coffin, earned two.
Henley, who attended UNT from 1967 to 1969 and later earned fame with The Eagles, earned a Grammy nomination for best country collaboration with vocals. The nomination came for his duet, "Calling Me," with singer Kenny Rogers. Henley also will be honored during Grammy week as the 2007 MusiCares Person of the Year. The award will be given for his achievements in music and his commitment to environmental issues and artists' rights.
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones garnered Grammy nods for best pop instrumental performance and best contemporary jazz album for "The Hidden Land." Coffin, a saxophonist in the band, received a bachelor of music degree from UNT in 1990.
Winners will be announced at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards show Feb. 11 in Los Angeles.
