As 2013 draws to a close, I want to say thank you to each of you for helping to make it such a great year for UNT.
Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends -- we've all come together in important ways to embody greatness and to stand united and strong as a community.
Mean Green pride is surging thanks to our winning football team and our upcoming appearance in the Heart of Dallas Bowl at the Cotton Bowl on New Year's Day. I hope you will be there wearing green and cheering the Mean Green to victory against the Rebels from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. UNT President-Elect Neal Smatresk, who is still at UNLV until February, and I are excited about what will be an exciting matchup and the beginning of a long and friendly rivalry between two great teams and two great universities.
There are few things that can rally a community better than pride. And a football game -- a bowl game no less -- is a great way to come together as the Mean Green Nation and show our pride. So be there at the Cotton Bowl on New Year's Day and help the Mean Green capture glory in our first season in Conference USA! Go Mean Green! Tickets are $75 each and a limited number of discounted tickets for UNT students are available for $25, thanks to donations from alumni.
The excitement starts on New Year's Eve. Join the crowd at WFAA's Victory Park or tune into Channel 8 from 5 to 7 a.m. on Dec. 31 when Scrappy, our cheerleaders, dancers and members of UNT's Green Brigade Marching Band will be showing off Mean Green pride live on television. Then join the Mean Green team and fans for pre-game and gameday celebrations. Learn more about free rides to Fair Park on DCTA and DART trains for the bowl game and directions and parking for the bowl game.
I hope you have a happy, Mean Green holiday season and best wishes for a new year filled with greatness.
