Sorry, folks! This was another trick question, but it should have been an easy one if you’ve been faithfully reading the Insider.
The correct answer is b. A&E’s Cold Case Files hosted a UNT professor, not a former student. Harrell Gill-King, director of the UNT Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology, was interviewed on A&E's Cold Case Files July 27. The segment highlighted his forensic work on the October 1991 kidnapping and murder of 8-year-old Chad Choice of Tyler.
Most recently, you probably caught alumna Norah Jones singing "Across the Universe" at the 2005 Grammy awards. Norah accepted the best record statuette for her duet “Here We Go Again” with Ray Charles, which was featured on his Genius Loves Company album. She also won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Sunrise.” Her first album, Come Away With Me, earned eight Grammy awards at the 2003 ceremony.
Polka band Brave Combo, some of whose members are UNT alumni, made its animated debut on the March 14 episode of Fox’s The Simpsons. The colorful 2-D band members played "Fill the Stein” during the Oktoberfest celebration attended by Marge and Homer. The Denton band also earned its second Grammy for best polka album at the 2005 awards, for Let’s Kiss: 25th Anniversary Album.
January episodes of HGTV’s Designer Finals featured Deborah Hernandez as she redid a kitchen in a 1960s ranch-style home and Monique Greene as she redid a dining room in a historical house. Both graduated in December from our School of Visual Arts. Stay tuned for other UNT alums who are expected to appear on the show in the coming months.
