The University of North Texas' Division
of Equity and Diversity is beginning a series of regular
meetings in which groups can have conversations exploring issues
of inclusion, diversity, equity and access for faculty, staff
and students.
The events, collectively known as "Café Diversity," will
be held at the Golden Eagle Suite of the University Union.
Each session will allow for dialogue among all participants in
an atmosphere of respect and inclusion.
Gilda Garcia, vice president for institutional
equity and diversity at UNT, says each month, the Café Diversity
meetings will focus on a particular theme. The topic for the January
Café Diversity meetings is "Building the IDEA Team at UNT."
Garcia says, "IDEA stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and
Access. We want to build a team at UNT that will serve as an advisory
group to the university leadership on IDEA matters. In addition,
this team will annually measure our progress towards our goals
and make recommendations for areas of improvement."
