What a victory! And what a way to enter Conference USA! Thank you to the Mean Green football team, and the entire Mean Green Nation, for earning a hometown championship. Winning the Heart of Dallas Bowl is the crowning glory to a winning season and a great way to start the next 100 years of football at UNT.
The Mean Green beat the UNLV Rebels 36-14 today -- our first bowl game win in more than a decade.
We took every advantage of playing on a national stage while still being in our own backyard. With such an important win and a sea of green in the Cotton Bowl stands, we showed the world that UNT is the home team for the entire North Texas region.
I want to thank our athletic director, Rick Villarreal, and Coach Dan McCarney for their dedication and leadership. Our football team played their heart out today and all season long, with every player helping to make the Mean Green a winning team. Congratulations to the players!
And I want to thank the UNT community and all of our Mean Green fans for filling the stands and cheering loudly and proudly on gamedays. Together, we are a proud Mean Green Nation -- united and strong.
Go Mean Green!
