Communication design professor earns Bridge Award for literacy advocacy
From a UNT News Service press release
|
 Eric Ligon
Eric Ligon, associate professor of communication design, earned an Individual Advocate Bridge Award from the North Texas Future Fund for his work as a literacy advocate and communication designer.
Ligon is the co-founder and president of BrailleInk, a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the experience of reading for children with visual impairments and their families and teachers.
Ligon was inspired by his son Ethan, who is blind, to create large, sturdy books with Braille and print translation in a one-to-one correspondence at the bottom of the page and the original printed words and illustrations at the top so Braille and sighted readers can share books together.
