Irene Turner, a UNT graduate student from Houston, received a scholarship to attend the workshop, Debating Science: A New Model for Ethics Education for Science and Engineering Students. The workshop is Aug. 5–10 at the University of Montana.
Thirty-six participants selected from U.S. universities will hear from experts in biotechnology, nanotechnology and global climate change. The workshop is funded by a grant to the Montana university's Center for Ethics and is designed to help graduate research students prepare for and participate in public debates about emerging technologies and science.
Turner is an environmental philosophy graduate student. She received her undergraduate
degree in anthropology with a philosophy minor from UNT in 2004. She is a research
assistant for award-winning documentarian Melinda Levin, associate
professor and chair in the Department of
Radio, Television and Film.
