Fashion design students at Dallas Career Day
Fashion design students from the College of Visual Arts and Design won 15 awards at Dallas Career Day, snagging more than a third of the 39 awards at the competition hosted by Fashion Group International at the World Trade Center in Dallas.
Students collected awards for designs ranging from evening wear to canine wear at Dallas Career Day, the longest running and largest fashion career event of its kind in the U.S. The event attracts nearly 1,200 students and faculty members from about 40 colleges and universities in the Southwest each year.
UNT winners are:
- Cesar Arzola, junior, won first place in casual design, sponsored by Fashion Group International of Dallas
- Hannah Blalock, junior, won second place in the Little Red Dress Competition, sponsored by the Dallas Market Center
- Jelyn Hobson, junior, earned a $1,000 scholarship from the Linda Segal Scholarship Fund
- Amy Huang, junior, won second place in cotton, sponsored by Texas Department of Agriculture
- Katrina Lee, senior, won the Neiman Marcus Willow Bend Fashion Illustration Competition
- Robbie Richard, senior, earned:
- Best of Show -- Janome machine (value $1,500)
- First place in cotton, sponsored by Texas Department of Agriculture
- Second place in Four Legged Fashion: Canine Meets Couture, sponsored by Fashion Group International of Dallas
- Third place in cocktail/eveningwear, sponsored by Fashion Group International of Dallas
- Kim Pham, sophomore, won second place in cocktail/eveningwear competition, sponsored by Fashion Group International of Dallas
- Courtney Powers, senior, earned:
- Best of Show -- Lectra Scholarship
- Best of Show -- Paris Academy Scholarship
- Kirsten Shisko, senior, won third place in casual design, sponsored by Fashion Group International of Dallas
- Bao Tran, junior, won first place in career/outerwear, sponsored by Fashion Group International of Dallas
- Elicia Wiltschko, junior, won third place in career/outerwear, sponsored by Fashion Group International of Dallas
