Equipment Rental

Need equipment for your next outdoor trip and don't want to spend the money to buy it? Rent it from us! For a minimal fee, The Outdoor Pursuits Center rents premium equipment, including lanterns, stoves, tents, sleeping bags, pots and pans, backpacks, coolers, kayaks, canoes and much more! Our brands include Sierra Designs, Thermarest, Primus, Kelty and Dagger, to name a few! Visit the Rec Center to rent equipment. Only UNT students, faculty, staff and Rec Center members may rent equipment. Please view the Equipment Rental Policies.

Equipment Rental Policies

Rental equipment may be reserved and rented by eligible participants following these guidelines:

  1. All equipment is available to current UNT students, faculty and staff upon presentation of a current student or faculty/staff ID card. Rec. Center members with a Rec. Center ID pay the normal rental price. Non-Rec. Center members are allowed to checkout equipment with a faculty/staff ID for an additional fee. Guests are not allowed to checkout equipment.
  2. Reservations may be made in person up to 2 weeks in advance at the Outdoor Pursuits Center. The full rental fee must be paid upon making a reservation. Equipment not reserved is available on a first-come, first-serve basis and must be paid for in full at the time of rental pick up.
  3. Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to check out time or rental fees paid will not be refunded.
  4. Cancellations that occur within 48 hours from the rental date and time will receive no refund. All cancellations of reserved equipment that would qualify for a refund must be made in person at the Outdoor Pursuits Center during normal operating hours.
  5. Fees will be assessed at the current retail rate for repair or replacement of damaged or lost equipment.
  6. Equipment returned late will be charged a daily rental rate.
  7. No credit or refunds will be issued for items reserved but not used or for early returns.
  8. Rental rates are determined as follows:
    1. Daily - (24 hour period)
    2. Weekend (3 days) - 72 hour period (if checked out on Friday, must be returned no later than Monday at or before noon. If checked out on Thursday must be returned on Sunday.)
    3. Weekly (4-7 days) - 96 to 168 hours max.
    4. Additional days may be added using either the daily or 3-day rates.
  9. Individuals abusing equipment or not following procedures may be ineligible to rent equipment in the future.
  10. To return equipment, please return to the Outdoor Pursuits Center during normal operating hours. Equipment returned to other areas in the Pohl Recreation Center will not be accepted or be considered returned equipment. Boats and tents must be rented and returned at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
