Recreational Sports at a Glance

Fall 2003 marked the beginning of a new era at the University of North Texas. The 138,000 square foot Pohl Recreation Center gives students, faculty, staff and alumni a healthy, safe environment that promotes recreation and fitness.

Recreational Sports is located in the beautiful Pohl Recreation Center. The Pohl Recreation Center gives people the opportunity to participate in aerobics, outdoor pursuits, swimming, weightlifting, various club sports and informal participation in basketball, indoor soccer, volleyball and badminton.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Recreational Sports Department at UNT is the provision of programs, services, and facilities, which support the recreational and fitness needs of the university community (students, faculty, staff and their families and guests) and support the educational goals of the University of North Texas. The goal is to provide a positive environment to assist those individuals in exploring and learning about recreation and fitness activities, in order to enhance a better quality of life and to become active members of the community. The activities are provided through intramural sports, informal recreation, group exercise, sport clubs, fitness, faculty/staff fitness, special events, outdoor pursuits and aquatics.

We provide outstanding service that results in returning members and guests. Evaluations are conducted in each program, and suggestion forms are located in the Pohl Recreation Center for your convenience. Employment

Recreation Center Student Employees

Recreational Sports employs individuals as graduate assistants, supervisors, game officials, court monitors, lifeguards, aerobic instructors and student secretaries in many of the activities offered. Individuals with experience and/or major in Recreation are especially encouraged to apply, although training will be provided for those less experienced individuals. The pay scale varies according to experience and length of service with the office. Persons interested in any of these positions should contact the Recreational Sports Office at (940) 565-2275.
