This paper provides an introduction to the UNIX operating environment in order to enable research using ACS UNIX hosts. Particular emphasis is placed on running statistical and mathematical applications such as SAS, SPSS and S-PLUS on sol.acs.unt.edu, the ACS UNIX host dedicated to research. Topics include basic operating commands, executing statistics applications, and printing output from UNIX.
