Old News

Week of 1-26: We'll start our review this week.

Week of 2-2: Continue general review and analytic review, Answer some review some questions not otherwise addressed.  Readings: Howell chapter 15 on MR (available as handout if you do not still have the text).  American Psychologist article on modern approaches to data analysis.

Week of 2-9: Continue discussion of modern approach, Begin foray into MR.

Week of 2-16: Advanced regression- issues and techniques.

News:   Notes added and more to come.  First article critique due 2-16.  Also don't forget to bring a short paragraph summary of your strengths/weaknesses in understanding MR (aka pop quiz fallout).  Upcoming Principal Components Analysis.

Related Readings:  Howell chapter 15 on MR (available as handout if you do not still have the text).  Upcoming: Harrell's chapter on validation (particularly the parts describing the different approaches though the rest serves primarily as a technical reference).  As we will use R for demonstration at some point on Monday, please refresh the basics here Intro to R.

News:  Notes added and more to come.  MR article critique due 3-2.  Bring final questions you have regarding MR to class on Monday.

Week of 2-23: Advanced regression techniques. ANCOVA. Intro to PCA.

Related Readings:  There is little that chapters on ANCOVA in typical texts provide that you can't get from initial returns web searches, however for a more in depth approach see Rutherford, A. (2001). Introducing ANOVA and ANCOVA, a GLM approach. Those with Howell would also do well to see Chapter 16.
For PCA, the Lattin, Carroll, Green handout (don't worry with the mechanics section if you don't want, I will provide supplementary notes and their text is designed specifically such that you can pass over it without too much loss of continuity).  Future: Canonical correlation (Thompson article available).

News:  Your homework for this week is to post, comment or ask a question on the forums and a critique on a paper that uses MultReg.  Here are critique guidelines.  Upcoming, canonical correlation.

Week of 3-2: ANCOVA. PCA. PC regression.
-----
News:  This week you are to bring in a question regarding the analysis used in some article you have recently read for your own research or interest.
Break coming up.  Enjoy it!

Week of 3-9: PCA. PC regression. Canonical Correlation.

Related Readings:  For PCA, the Lattin, Carroll, Green handout (don't worry with the mechanics section if you don't want, I will provide supplementary notes and their text is designed specifically such that you can pass over it without too much loss of continuity).  Future: Canonical correlation (Thompson article available).  Supplemental paper on partial least squares regression is provided (includes discussion of PC regression)

This week you are to bring in a question regarding the analysis used in some article you have recently read for your own research or interest.

Week of 3-23: Canonical Correlation.

Related Readings:  Canonical correlation (Thompson article available).  Supplemental paper on partial least squares regression is provided (includes discussion of PC regression).  Stats anxiety supplemental article.

Week of 3-30: MANOVA, perhaps begin DFA.

---

Week of 4-6: Finish MANOVA, begin classification techniques.

Related Readings: Various handouts

News: We will have a mini-project due for the end of the semester in which you perform analysis and interpretation of data of your choosing using any of the techniques covered.  Details. Supplemental article added that demonstrates DA, LogReg and CART to predict early termination in a university counseling training clinic.

Week of 4-13: Continue discussion of classification techniques.  Article critique due next week (4-20). A couple additions were made to the notes at the end of the DFA section and very end.

---

Week of 4-20: Path Analysis, perhaps begin discussion of Factor Analysis.  Article critique due.  I goofed and didn't give you the reading last week though.  Will have it Monday to add to your records.  In that light I have the notes up now but they may be tweaked just a tad by class time.  Also, a couple of you have yet to meet with me.

Related Readings: Keith chapter handout

Week of 4-27: Factor Analysis.

Related Readings: Darlington pdf

---

Week of 5-4: Miscellaneous topics regarding additional techniques and anything else under the sun you want to talk about.  As such you need to come prepared with questions.  In addition, you need to at least have your dataset and analysis chosen to run by me to make sure you're good to go with it.

Related Readings: none.
