Cub Scout Training Materials

Overview

The following files are a collection of training documents that may be useful to other Cub Scout Trainers. Most are documents that I have created in the course of preparing Cub Scout Training sessions for Cub Scout Leader Basic Training, Outdoor Webelos Training, PowWow, or Roundtable. Some are documents that I have found elsewhere that I feel are valuable enough to Cub Scout Trainers to include here. The Document List below points to files on my web site, and your browser SHOULD offer to download or save them to your local machine.

Copyright Notice

Although some of my documents are marked with copyright dates to note when they were created and modified, they may be reproduced for use by Cub Scout Trainers or incorporated into Pow Wow books without further restrictions. They do, after all, make liberal use of BSA clip art and insignia files that are freely available on various ftp sites. They are not intended or approved for inclusion in someone else's publication if it is to be produced for a profit.

Document Formats

Where possible I have tried to provide these files in the current release version of the software I used to create them, plus an alternative file in the release version prior to that. For example, I had provided both Word for Windows 6.0/7.0 format and the older 2.0 format as well. I was keeping the PowerPoint files in 4.0 format even though I am using 9.0 in the Office 2000 Beta ( 8.0 is the Office 97 format now). This is the only reasonable way I have of providing files that may be able to be opened in other applications besides Microsoft's, since most applications software will only import the prior version of their competitors' programs. In the future I hope to move some of these files to HTML and post them directly to the web. This is becoming more and more likely as Microsoft keeps Internet enabling their application software, making this process relatively easy. Now if I just had more time......

All of my work lately is being done in Office 2000 and/or Office 97, so most of the recent files are only provided in the current format. Since Office 97 files are binary compatible with both Office 98 for Macintosh and Office 2000, this should be less of a problem than it was in the past.

WARNING:  The files on this site date through 1999; newer training materials have superceded many of them, but I have not kept up with Cub Training since then so they will not be updated.

SPLIT SESSIONS

Updated CSLBT Pack Leader Split Session with complete speaker notes and updated page references to the brand new 1997 Cub Scout Leader Book. In PowerPoint 97 only (I know, I'm breaking my own rules on format, but do you want this now, or months later when I get time to fool with conversion?).

CSLBT Pack Leader Split Session - ENTIRE SESSION
This slide show contains slightly updated versions of the next five sub-sessions, linked into one show for delay-free transitions between each class; there are no delays while I open each of the five shows. Since BSA gave us much less time in the 1994 syllabus to present almost the same amount of information, I had to cut transition time between sub-sessions to nothing more than a deep breath.

The new 1999 Webelos Leader Guide addresses many of the issues highlighted in my presentation and handout, but not all.  A number of recommended corrections did NOT make it into the 1999 book, but ARE included in the Webelos Program Planning Handout.
