The Dorothy Thomas Endowed Scholarship Fund

Dorothy May Thomas came to Denton from her native Wisconsin in 1939, the year the Department of Library Service was established.  She was among the first students enrolled in classes and received a Bachelor of Science in Library Service in 1941.  From that time until she retired in 1977, Miss Thomas was a central figure in the life of the school.  She taught undergraduate classes in reference, cataloging, and other areas; edited the school's newsletter; sponsored the honor society in which she was a charter member; and took a deep and abiding interest in students who were the focus of her life.  She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and pursued graduate study at the University of Chicago.  She died in 1995.
