Information Technology Knowledge and Skills
Diagnostic Tool

The SLIS Information Technology Knowledge and Skills (ITKS) Diagnostic Tool assists you in assessing your level of ITKS.  This is a self-assessment, and only you see the scores resulting from using the tool.  The faculty have established Information Technology Knowledge and Skills that they believe are necessary for success in the programs.  All students are presumed to have these skills when beginning their study.

The diagnostic tool provides separate assessments for each of the following ITKS groups

  • Group I – Basic Computer Knowledge and Skills
  • Group II – Word Processing
  • Group III – Spreadsheet
  • Group IV – Database
  • Group V – Presentation
  • Group VI – Internet
  • Group VII – Web Development

The recommended standard score of 75% in each of these groups demonstrates satisfactory readiness.  Applications and students who do not score at the 75% level should take remedial action to meet the entry-level requirements.  The diagnostic tool will alert you to the ITKS group in which you need improvement.

To start your self-assessment, just click here.

SLIS also offers a non-credit online course designed for students to acquire basic computer knowledge and skills in a self-paced fashion.  SLIS ITKS course.

Please check the Frequently Asked Questions page for additional information.

If you experience any problems using the self-assessment or have any questions, please e-mail us at slis@unt.edu
