 Master's Admission Checklist

Thank you for your interest in the UNT School of Library and Information Science Masters program.

All new students (except school librarianship program of study) begin the Master's Program with 5000 (Introduction to Information Professions). This can be taken with either or both of the other two core courses, 5600 (Introduction to Information Access and Retrieval) and 5200 (Introduction to Information Organization).  See the course descriptions in the catalog for more info.  SLIS 5600 and 5200 can be taken in an institute format (3 days and 4 days respectively) or in a traditional classroom setting. The institute cohorts for 5000, 5200, and 5600 are now being filled.  Check here for web institute dates and locations .

Admissions to the Institute are limited and completed applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. It is recommended that prospective students apply at least six months before the beginning of your proposed first semester, as web institutes normally fill at least three months before the semester begins.

If you have submitted a complete application and have not been contacted, call or email the SLIS Main Office at slis@unt.edu or 877-ASK-SLIS.

When the above four items to the graduate school and the three items to SLIS have been received at SLIS, your application will be considered complete and SLIS will make a decision regarding your admission for the following semester or the semester you have requested.

  1. SLIS will contact you to inquire about your plans to enroll in the next available core course.

Those who have been added to the email listserv will have first priority when registering for classes. Other students will be allowed to register as space permits or will be put on a waiting list.
