General Program of Study

SLIS 5000 – Introduction to the Information Profession (1 hour)

SLIS 5600 – Introduction to Information and Access Retrieval (4 hours)
The general program of study is intended to prepare graduates to succeed in
a wide range of library and information science positions. In addition to
the three core classes, the student should take at least one of the courses
in each of the following five categories plus four electives, making a total
of 12 courses and 36 semester hours:

The
General Program of Study student must also complete 120 hours of practicum
or have 6 months of verifiable library experience at the professional
level. During the final semester before graduation, the student will enroll
in the Capstone program. Neither is counted for degree credit.
