Selection Criteria for the
Lis and Philip Turner Student Paper/Project Award
2003 Lis and Philip Student Paper Award Winner
The University of North Texas School of Library and
Information Sciences shall offer annual awards for “Outstanding Student Paper”
and “Outstanding Student Project.”
Submissions will be judged by the Student Affairs
Committee and must adhere to the following guidelines:
1.
The student must be
enrolled full-time or part-time in the Master’s Program in the School of
Library and Information Sciences during the calendar year preceding the
deadline.
2.
Students wishing to
make a submission may ask their instructor to nominate their paper or project
to the Student Affairs Committee or instructors may nominate papers on their
own after receiving permission from the student.
3.
Students must complete
the form to give the school permission to post nominated papers and projects on
the SLIS Web Site and on the student paper bulletin board.
4.
Submissions must be
made by January 15 of each year and are limited to assignments from the
preceding calendar year. The award will
be determined by February 15.
5.
The paper or project
must be:
a.
A result of an assignment
in one of the student’s SLIS classes.
b.
Based on either
research or informed opinion.
c.
Follow a recognized
style manual, if applicable.
The identity of the authors
of the papers will be unknown to the Committee.
Submissions will be judged on: 1) originality of
thought and observation; 2) topicality and professional significance; 3) depth,
breadth and organization of content; 4) readability, clarity and creativity of
expression; and 5) documentation of bibliographic resources. The committee may withhold presentation of
the awards if no paper or project of sufficient quality is identified.
There
will be a cash award of $100 for the paper and the project awards.
