UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS
SCHOOL OF LIBRARY AND
INFORMATION SCIENCES
A Brief History 1939-2004
In Celebration of its 65th Anniversary
Margaret Irby Nichols
originally compiled this brief history in 1989, in
celebration of the 50th
Anniversary of the School of Library & Information
Sciences. In 1999, Margaret
Irby Nichols and Herman L. Totten revised the
history in celebration of the
School’s 60th Anniversary. This revision, along
with earlier ones, relied on
reports and other materials prepared by Deans
Dewey E. Carroll, Raymond Von
Dran, and Philip M. Turner, and on
information contained in
Call Number,
the
School’s newsletter.
This updated edition removes
names and dates for faculty members from
the text and places them in a
chronological chart in an appendix section.
The appendix also includes an
updated section titled Additional Historical
Notes and updated listings of
Outstanding Alumni Awards, Distinguished
Faculty Awards, and
Distinguished Service Awards. In addition to the roster
of directors and deans, and of
faculty throughout the years, photographs
have been added to the text and
to a section in the appendix section. |
