Seeking Assistant Professor of Sociology for Fall, 2009

POSITION OPEN: Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2009.
The Department of Sociology at the University of North Texas invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level to begin Fall 2009.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: Ph.D. or ABD in sociology or closely related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in Comparative and Global Sociology, Health and Illness, and Social Stratification/Inequality. A focus on gender within one or more of these areas is preferred. Preference will also be given to candidates with a demonstrated record of scholarly research and publication, securing external funds for research, and effective teaching of multiple courses at the college or university level.

DUTIES
:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach up to five courses per year, engage in research resulting in scholarly publication, and provide service to students and the university.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

Initial evaluation of candidates will be based on their (1) curriculum vitae, (2) statement outlining their research agenda and teaching interests, (3) publications or other samples of scholarly writing, (4) evidence of external research funding and teaching experience (such as syllabi and teaching evaluations) if available, and (5) three letters of reference.
