Future Growth Considerations
UNT’s enrollment will continue to grow--especially freshmen
1st Generation/minority students students especially desire to stay on campus
Gridlock will cause severe commuting challenges
Denton will continue to grow and land will become increasingly scarce
Private student housing will continue to help with housing needs
UNT can partner with private companies to add bedspace--no financial risk
UNT could build its own residence halls or apartments
- UNT’s master plan restricts new residence halls to the perimeter of campus
- Land around campus will be very expensive and negotiations lengthy
In addition to new demand for housing:
- College Inn’s life expectancy is extremely limited--500 spaces
- West Hall is tripled--an unacceptable long-term solution--170 extra students
- Demand for single rooms is high and cannot be currently met
UNT currently has a residency requirement for the freshman year which could be removed, but this is not currently recommended
