Class Identity
Beginning in the fall of 2007, Student Success Programs committed itself to helping each new class of UNT students select a cause to support throughout the four years of their college experience. The purpose of this program is to help connect students to their classmates as well as give back to the community.
At the start of each academic year during First Flight, the incoming freshman class has an opportunity to vote on a Class Cause organization or theme. Student Success Programs facilitates the voting process throughout the two weeks of First Flight. In addition to casting a ballot for the Class Cause, students are encouraged to apply for leadership positions within their class to design and implement Class Cause events. This ensures that the Class Cause is completely student driven and student run.
Class of 2011 Cause: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Based on the results of the survey (51.5% of 233 participants), the Class of 2011 cause is St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility anywhere. Discoveries made at St. Jude have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. They are America's 3rd-largest health-care charity, with a model that keeps the costs down and the funds flowing, so the science never stops.

Class of 2012 Cause: Habitat for Humanity
The Class of 2012 has devoted itself to raising money and helping build homes for Habitat for Humanity for the next four years to help ensure that the Denton area is a safe place for all people to live. Students will run their own fundraisers and determine the course of the program to make their Class Cause a success.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that aids in reducing homelessness and poor housing conditions for families in need. Habitat for Humanity has built thousands of houses around the world through donations by big businesses and private individuals. Volunteers work with the family in need to complete a house, which the family pays for at minimum cost.
Class of 2013: Health
At the beginning of Fall 2009, the Class of 2013 voted on the following thematic causes: Environmental, Health, and Humanity. A total of 1,110 students submitted ballots on the Class Cause of 2013. With 377 student votes, Health was chosen as the Class Cause of 2013.
The Health theme will allow the Class of 2013 to focus their service and educational efforts on health-related organizations and topics. Service projects could include organizing campus blood drives, volunteering in local hospitals and health clinics, fundraising for non-profits, or promoting wellness activities to name just a few of the endless possibilities. The Class of 2013 Leadership Board will encourage peers from their class to actively participate in community service projects and social action campaigns through on- and off-campus service opportunities, alternative break service trips, and educational events to include guest speakers and campus-wide programming.
