Research
The Texas Center for Music & Medicine has established
a vibrant research program to help with systematic
advancements in knowledge, research training, musician
and clinician education, and service. Designed around
interdisciplinary participation and advanced biomedical
and performance engineering theory and technology,
this research program allows for novel, robust, and
state-of-the-art research projects.
The UNT College of Music offers extraordinary opportunity
as a research site because of its large, diverse student
and faculty population. Its stature as a premier training
group for traditional and nontraditional performance
practices offers enormous potential for research and
the development of service models specific to a wide
range of music genres and social groups. The UNT Health
Science Center offers outstanding clinical services
and an unyielding commitment to health care research.
Our interdisciplinary research program focuses on collaborative
efforts within and between the UNT College of Music,
UNT College of Arts & Sciences, and the UNT Health
Science Center in Fort Worth. Intercampus research
with the Human Performance Institute at the University
of Texas at Arlington also stimulates project conceptualizations,
development, and execution. Additional partnerships
with the Performing Arts Medicine Association are
increasing possibilities for projects that are national
in scope. Such relationships have and will continue
to support project funding and the overall quality
and amount of information generated.
