UNT Speech and Hearing Center
The
UNT Speech and Hearing Center strives to provide superior professional
diagnostic and treatment services in speech-language pathology and
audiology while providing excellence in clinical education for students
in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University
of North Texas.
Musicians who wish to be evaluated for voice or hearing
problems will find highly trained audiologists and
speech-language pathologists certified by the American
Speech-Language-Hearing Association and licensed by
the State of Texas.
Diagnostic services available to musicians in the area
of medical speech pathology include comprehensive
evaluation of phonatory dysfunction using strobolaryngoscopy,
multi-spiro spriometry, and acoustic analysis. Treatment
service for voice disorders include evaluation of
vocal tract health using flexible nasoendoscopy and
assessment of respiratory adequacy using aerodynamic
measurement.
Audiologists at the UNT Speech and Hearing Center are
available to evaluate musicians who have or feel that
they are at risk for hearing loss. Clinicians have
state-of-the-art equipment to perform routine and
advanced diagnostic procedures to evaluate the entire
auditory system including status of middle ear function
and direct evaluation of inner ear status. Audiological
services for musicians include:
- Complete evaluation of hearing sensitivity
- Evaluation of middle ear function
- Direct evaluation of inner ear function using
otoacoustic emissions
- Custom musicians’ ear protection
- Analog and digital hearing aids
- Counseling and education related to reducing the
risk of hearing loss
