Sylvia White Sylvia White is a master's Voice Performance major at the University of North Texas. She is a soprano in her first year of study under Elizabeth King- Dubberly. She holds a B.M. in voice performance from Central Michigan University where she studied under Mary Stewart Kiesgen. A scholar of the CMU McNair Program, she conducted an original investigation of historical authenticity in John Adams Nixon in China and Jacke Heggie's Dead Man Walking, respecively; titled Opera as History: The Representations of Three Historical Figures in Recent American Opera. In 2003, she earned first place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing regional competition amongst junior female collegiates, and in the summer of 2005 she placed at the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs Annual Singing Voice Competition. Since commencing her undergraduate in voice performance she has nurtured a strong interest in the area of voice science and vocology. Currently, she is working under Dr. Chesky to draft the voice health section of the new music course MUAG 1500. Subsequent to earning her master's in voice performance she plans to pursue an advanced degree in singing science and as a professional singer address issues concerning the care and knowledge of the singing voice. |
