PowerPoint 97 - Creating a Slide Show
Using the Microsoft Chart Program
| Create a new slide, and choose the slide
layout for Graph (row 1, column 3). Create the title "Menu Favorites
1996" Double-click in the middle of the graph placeholder. Microsoft Graph starts. A datasheet and a sample graph appear. When you enter data in the datasheet, it displays in the graph. You can also import data using Edit/Import Data. Before you import, delete the contents of the datasheet, by clicking on the row numbers and pressing delete. Highlight the column headings and press delete. Make any changes you need to the datasheet. Change the Row headings to:
Keep the column headings as is: 1st Qtr, etc. Change the numbers as follows:
|
|
| You can use the mouse to click on the area of the graph to be changed. When you click on the Legend, handles appear around it so it can be resized. Clicking on individual grid lines or data items can result in changing only that item. | |
|
From the menu, select CHART, Chart Type.
You can select any type of chart you wish, as well as choose from the different options for each type. Then select OK to apply the changes. By pointing to specific areas and pressing the Opposite Mouse Button, you can get area specific menus to change fonts, the legend, etc. For instance, to change the text of the X Axis, point to the titles (1st Qtr, 2nd Qtr, etc.), and opposite mouse click. You will get a special menu, which points you to the Format Axis menu.
With Placement, you can have the labels at a 90 degree angle. With Font, you can change the font face, point size, and appearance. If you need to change the colors of the data series, opposite mouse click on the data series, and select Format Data Series. It is sometimes easier to read if the data series is a pattern instead of a solid color. This is especially important if printing the slide on a non-color printer and you need to distinguish the different data series. Change to a pattern instead of a solid color.
Exit from the Graph when finished editing. |
| Saving the file | Save any changes made to the Slide Show by selecting the Save icon, or FILE, SAVE. |
