Registration problems

I am being asked to enter a code. How do I get my code?

  • If you are on academic probation you will be required to meet with an academic adviser to discuss your schedule and obtain a code to register.
  • If it is your first semester at UNT you will need an advising code to register. You must attend orientation to receive this code.
  • Some classes are restricted and require advising codes. You will need to contact the department or appropriate person to receive the code.

I am getting a message that says, "Maximum term unit load exceeded." What do I need to do?

If you get this message, you have tried to register for more than the maximum number of hours allowed for that term.

An adviser can approve an overload if you meet the qualifications listed in the UNT catalog under Student Load.

Advising

May I get advised over the phone or email?

Advisers can provide general information over email or phone. However, if you have several questions, it is best to schedule an appointment with your adviser.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Updating each semester's progress on your copy of the worksheet, audit or degree plan.
  • Meeting with an adviser one semester prior to graduation to complete a graduation check.
  • Providing updated transcripts to your adviser for any transfer work completed after you begin attending UNT.
  • Meeting all degree requirements of your degree plan as well as the general requirements outlined in the Undergraduate Catalog of the year specified by your formal degree plan.

What should I bring to my advising appointment?

  • A list of questions.
  • Any materials that you have from previous advising appointments.
  • Transcripts for course work completed since your last advising appointment.

Academic Requirements and Policies

How does duplicating a class affect my GPA?

A student may take a course a second or subsequent time.

The first grade earned is excluded in the GPA calculation.

The second attempt and all subsequent attempts will be included in the GPA calculation.

A duplication form should be completed with your adviser.

What is Pass/No Pass?

Students may choose to take free electives as Pass/No Pass.

Required courses must be taken as a graded course.

If you would like to take a free elective Pass/No Pass, you must meet with an adviser before the stated deadline in the schedule of classes.

What GPA is required to graduate with honors?

There are three levels of honors:

  • Cum Laude: Overall GPA is at least 3.500 but less than 3.800
  • Magna Cum Laude: Overall GPA is at least 3.800 but less than 4.000
  • Summa Cum Laude: Overall GPA is 4.000

How do I calculate my GPA?

Visit this web site to learn how to calculate your GPA.

Can I take classes at another school and transfer them back?

If you plan to take a course at another school and transfer it back to UNT, you must meet with an adviser.

An adviser can tell you the correct course number to take and complete a concurrent enrollment form if needed.

What does it mean to be on Academic Probation?

A student, who is not classified as a freshman, is place on academic probation at the end of any enrollment period in which the cumulative grade point average drops below a 2.0.

What does it mean to be on Academic Suspension?

A student who, during a probationary fall or spring term/semester, fails to raise the cumulative grade point average to the minimum 2.0 standard or who fails to make at least a 2.25 for the term/semester is automatically suspended from UNT for one or more long term/semesters.
