The Karrington & Company scholarship program will award two $5,000 scholarships to Cedar Valley Community College students to help them complete junior- and senior-level courses leading to a bachelor's degree at the UNT Dallas Campus. The scholarship is open to all undergraduate majors. Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements listed on the application.

To apply for the scholarship call McClure Communications at (214) 550-1704, pick up an application at the UNT Dallas Campus Financial Aid Office or apply for the scholarship online (application will open in new window; requires Acrobat Reader). Applications are due May 16, 2007.

Scholarship recipients will be announced in June 2007. Scholarship recipients must be admitted to the UNT Dallas Campus to receive the scholarship.

In addition to providing scholarships, Karrington & Company has plans to provide an internship for those students who are interested in pursuing a career in real estate, accounting, business or the medical equipment industry.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be completing their final year at Cedar Valley Community College.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and are in good standing.
  • Scholarship recipients must be full-time college students for the terms in which they are awarded scholarships. 
  • Applicants must be U. S. citizens and permanent residents of Texas.
  • Applicants must have applied and been accepted by the University of North Texas, to pursue a bachelor's degree at the UNT Dallas Campus.

Criteria

  • Will successfully complete a two year community college degree from Cedar Valley Community College by May 31, 2007
  • In an 800-1000 word, typed, double spaced essay describing your thoughts on the criminal justice system in Dallas, TX.  Does the system work?  If so, why, or if the system does not work, why not?
  • Your name must be typed at the top of each page of your essay.

Submission Process

  • Complete application packet must be submitted by 5:00 p.m., May 16, 2007.

Scholarship Renewal Conditions

  • Scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 each semester, and be in good standing at the university to have their scholarship renewed.
  • Scholarship recipients must enroll in and successfully complete the majority of their attempted hours each semester.  If a student does not satisfactorily complete the majority of their attempted hours his/her scholarship will not be renewed.
  • Credit Hour requirements below:
    • Total Registered Hours: 12-15
    • Minimum Hours Required to Complete: 9
  • Scholarship recipients must be enrolled for consecutive fall and spring semester in order to retain their scholarship eligibility.  If a student is not enrolled during a consecutive semester he/she must re-apply for the scholarship.
  • Scholarship recipients who withdraw from classes or fall below the number of hours required to maintain full-time status, must notify the Financial Aid Office in writing.

Award Amount

  • The maximum award is $5000 to be used over three years, or upon completion of bachelor's degree.
  • The Karrington & Co. scholarship covers classes offered on-site at the Dallas Campus for academic programs offered by the Dallas Campus.  It will not cover UNT Denton or online courses, even if the courses are required as part of student's major.
  • The Karrington & Co. scholarship is applied towards costs related to admission application fee, and tuition.

Applicants will be notified of results by the 1st week of June 2007.
