The remainder of the series is free and only available to UNT students.

Keynote: Lupe Valdez
Dallas County Sheriff

Lupe Valdez was elected Sheriff of Dallas County, Texas, on November 4, 2004. She took the position of highest-ranking law enforcement officer in the County of Dallas on January 1, 2005. Sheriff Valdez is the only female Sheriff in the State of Texas, and is also the only Hispanic Female Sheriff in the United States. Sheriff Valdez has been in Law Enforcement for over 30 years, serving at both Federal and State levels. She was awarded "Elected Official of the Year" in 2007.

 

Joel Allison
President and CEO, Baylor Health Care System

Allison's career includes almost three decades in health care management. He joined Baylor Health Care System in 1993, and served as Baylor's senior executive vice president and chief operating officer before being promoted to president and CEO in 2000. Allison received a bachelor's degree in journalism and religion at Baylor University in 1970 and attended Trinity University's health care administration program where he earned a master's degree in 1973.

The Center established the AIDS Resource Center in 1985 to provide information and prevention education. The AIDS Resource Center now offers a wide range of programs to assist individuals and families affected by HIV and AIDS. The continuum of services includes: HIV awareness and prevention education/outreach; nutritional services including a food pantry and hot lunches; information & referral; community health programs; and a wide variety of other social support services.
