DALLAS – Students from the Universidad Metropolitana de Honduras (Metropolitan University of Honduras) will visit the University of North Texas at Dallas Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 2-9 p.m.
Three administrators and 13 students from the university will give a one-hour presentation, after which they will receive a campus tour and participate in student development activities.
UNT Dallas will also host a reception in honor of its guests from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the campus library. Media are invited to attend.
The students will attend a class on business statistics and then return to UNT Dallas on Thursday, Sept. 11, for a class on entrepreneurship (see full schedule below).
Peter Johnstone, deputy vice chancellor of UNT Dallas, said the visit represents an opportunity to explore future exchange relationships with a university of comparable size and student population to the future UNT Dallas, which will open and accept its first freshman class in 2010.
“The Universidad Metropolitana de Honduras offers a range of courses that mesh well with our proposed offerings,” Johnstone said. “This is the first of many such opportunities as we develop our international profile and that of the future UNT Dallas.”
Gloria Bahamon, director of student services at UNT Dallas, said the visiting students will be able to discuss issues related to study in a foreign country with bilingual students at the UNT Dallas.
“Our students will be able to share their personal experiences about how to prepare to seek admission as an international student and how they should learn English before they come,” Bahamon said. “All of their classes, should they choose to someday study at UNT Dallas or anywhere in the United States, will be in English. They must be prepared or they will have serious difficulties.”
