UNT Dallas Campus to offer prerequisite courses for MBA

DALLAS—Beginning with the Summer 2008 Semester, the UNT Dallas Campus will offer three additional courses at its Dallas Campus to prepare future students for graduate study in business. Students with bachelor’s degrees in programs other than business are required to take “prerequisite” or “leveling” courses prior to enrolling in the MBA in Strategic Management.

In the past, these courses were offered only at UNT in Denton or online. By making the classes available this summer, students can enroll in the MBA core program sooner.

“This action represents our commitment to the needs of students and future students,” said Dr. John Price, vice provost of the UNT Dallas Campus. “Our mission has always been and will continue to be to provide greater access to quality education for the citizens of this region.”

The UNT Dallas Campus MBA in Strategic Management is achieved through both traditional evening classes and a special Saturday schedule that blends online and classroom learning. The blended learning approach was designed for students who are seeking a convenient, flexible option for pursuing an MBA.

“The Saturday classes have been extremely popular and have helped produce rapid growth in the MBA program,” said Dr. Barbara Altman, faculty and program coordinator for management programs at the Dallas Campus. “We will continue to build our Saturday course offerings throughout the 2008-2009 academic year.”

MBA students who enroll for six or more credit hours per semester may be eligible to receive $1,000 or more each academic year through the UNT Dallas Campus General Academic Scholarship.

“Available scholarships, combined with an already affordable tuition rate, and an absence of tuition increases for the 2008-2009 academic year makes this MBA program an attractive option for students,” said Price.

The UNT System Board of Regents voted Feb. 7 during its quarterly meeting to freeze tuition at its Dallas Campus, while raising tuition at its Denton campus for the 2008-2009 academic year—a move that could help the campus meet its enrollment goal of 1,000 full-time equivalent students by Fall 2008.

Prospective students can learn more about the MBA program during Admissions Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, and Tuesday, April 15, at the Campus. For information, call 972-780-3600.

The UNT Dallas Campus, which operates under the authority of the University of North Texas in Denton, currently offers junior-, senior- and graduate-level courses leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Once freestanding, the University of North Texas at Dallas will begin recruiting its first freshman class for admission in fall 2009.
