Accounting department will offer oil-gas accounting, taxation courses at UCD

DALLAS – Substantial demand from the oil and gas industry and accounting firms that work in the field has led the University of North Texas’ Department of Accounting to offer two new graduate courses on oil and gas accounting and taxation during the Fall 2008 semester.

The courses, which will be offered in the evening at the Universities Center of Dallas (UCD), located at 1901 Main Street, will cover principles, procedures and issues in petroleum accounting, and federal tax regulations for the industry. Oil and Gas Taxation (ACCT 5360) will be offered on Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:20 p.m., from Aug. 25-Dec. 12. Oil and Gas Accounting (ACCT 5710) will be offered on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:20 p.m.

Individuals may register as provisional students and take one or both of the courses.  The UCD provisional application can be accessed at http://www.ucddowntown.org/index.php by clicking on “On-line Application.” Complete and return the application by fax at 940-565-2141 or deliver it to the UCD in person during the UCD registration period Aug. 14. The $50.00 application fee may be paid via credit card by completing the credit card authorization form or by mailing a $50 check to:  Graduate Admissions, UNT, P.O. Box 305459, Denton, TX 76203.

A copy of a transcript showing the highest degree earned must be included with the application.  The individual will then be admitted provisionally for one semester. Provisionally admitted students  who decide to continue taking classes after the Fall 2008 semester will be required to submit official transcripts from all colleges attended and meet UNT admission requirements for graduate study prior to registering for a subsequent semester.

Those seeking admission to the UNT Graduate School or who wish to continue enrollment after the provisional semester are encouraged to apply via the Texas Common Application at www.applytexas.org.  To register during regular registration students must have submitted their application by July 15 (July 1 for the College of Business). Students submitting applications July 16-Aug. 15 will be required to register during late registration and will be assessed a $25 late registration fee.  The application and the $50.00 application fee are submitted electronically and the applicant must have official transcripts from all colleges attended sent to UNT.

Further information regarding enrollment in the graduate school may be obtained from the College of Business Administration Graduate Programs Office by calling 940-369-8977 or going to www.coba.unt.edu/programs/masters.

North Texas has become the second largest on-shore domestic producer of natural gas.  The Barnett Shale, source of the gas deposits over 16-21 counties or 6,000 square miles in North Texas, trails behind the San Juan Basin in Colorado and New Mexico.  The gas field was created 300-600 million years ago when shallow ocean waters covered the Fort Worth basin.

The UNT UNT Dallas operates under the authority of the University of North Texas in Denton, the state’s fourth largest university, and is a component institution of the University of North Texas System. The Campus currently offers junior-, senior- and graduate-level courses leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The Campus will become freestanding and open as UNT Dallas, the city’s first and only public university, by 2010.
