DALLAS – The sociology faculty at the University of North Texas Dallas Campus selected Garland-resident Alex Nunez as the “Outstanding Sociology Student for Fall 2007.” The award is the first of its kind given on the campus to declared sociology majors who show academic excellence and promise for the future.
Brenda McCoy, assistant professor and coordinator of the sociology program at the UNT Dallas Campus, said Nunez displayed “overall academic excellence, exceptional understanding of sociological concepts and theories, and strong peer leadership.”
“During the fall of 2007 semester, Mr. Nunez impressed many members of the sociology faculty with his intelligence, strong work ethic, and willingness to help other students. We are deeply proud of him and what he has accomplished. We believe that he has enormous potential—in graduate school, the workplace, or wherever he chooses to invest his skills and talents.”
The UNT Dallas Campus, which operates under the authority of the University of North Texas in Denton, currently offers junior-, senior- and graduate-level courses leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Once freestanding, the University of North Texas at Dallas will begin recruiting its first freshman class for admission in fall 2009.
