DALLAS — Horace “H.D.” Stearman became the director of campus transition & accreditation at the University of North Texas UNT Dallas March 23.
Stearman is now responsible for the areas of institutional effectiveness, accreditation (including accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools), strategic planning, regulatory compliance and faculty training and evaluation.
Stearman brings 22 years of experience in traditional and for-profit higher education. Since June of 2008 Stearman served as director of institutional effectiveness at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah. Before that he served as associate director of institutional planning & effectiveness at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
He also served in administrative positions at Remington College in Fort Worth and at American Intercontinental University in Houston. Before that he served 10 years as an English instructor at Indiana University, Penn State and Texas A&M Commerce.
John Ellis Price, vice chancellor of UNT Dallas and president designate of the future UNT Dallas, said the campus was “fortunate to have an administrator of this caliber join our campus leadership team. We anticipate moving forward very quickly to set in place the policies and procedures necessary for growing the UNT Dallas Campus into UNT Dallas,” Price said.
Now that enrollment at the UNT UNT Dallas has reached the state-mandated level of 1,000 full‐time equivalent students, it can now begin the process of transitioning into UNT Dallas. It will be a separate member institution of the UNT System awarding four‐year and graduate degrees.
The UNT UNT Dallas operates under the authority of the University of North Texas in Denton, the state’s fourth largest university, and is a component institution of the University of North Texas System. The Campus currently offers junior-, senior- and graduate-level courses leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The Campus plans to become freestanding by 2010 and will be named UNT Dallas, the city’s first and only public university.
