DALLAS—For the first time in the history of the University of North Texas Assistant Principals’ Conference, professors from UNT Dallas are organizing the event.

The 26th annual UNT AP Conference, scheduled for Nov. 11, provides updated information every year on laws that affect public school administrators. The conference is geared toward aspiring and current assistant principals.

“It is a fabulous honor to work on the UNT AP Conference as a faculty member from UNT Dallas since it gives my colleagues and me in the educational administration department an opportunity to showcase our students,” said Assistant Professor Laura Trujillo-Jenks. She and her colleagues are preparing “an informative and energetic conference,” she said.

This year's theme, "Seizing Compliance," reflects the many amendments and updates to current rules, regulations and laws that public school administrators must abide by.

Keynote speaker Jerry Thomas, dean of UNT Denton’s College of Education, will speak about “Developing expertise needed for leadership” at 8:30 a.m. Other speakers include professors, superintendents, lawyers and directors from the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the state.

Attendees can choose from 15 presentations offered at four sessions that run 9:45-10:45 a.m., 11-12 p.m., 1:30-2:30 p.m. and 2:45-3:45 p.m. Topics to be covered include search and seizure, Title 1 and parental involvement, Senate Bill 1301 and House Bill 3 compliance, crisis management, special education, student discipline, state and federal compliance for administrators, and implementing new instructional Initiatives.

The conference takes place in UNT Denton’s University Union, which is located east of the Administration Building in the center of campus and runs from 8 a.m.—4 p.m.

The deadline to register and to reserve a luncheon ticket is Nov. 4. General registration is $120, or $60 for UNT students and employees and $80 for currently enrolled non-UNT students.
