UNT UNT Dallas hosting “Operation Uplift” summer camp

DALLAS – The University of North Texas UNT Dallas will serve as the host site for “Operation Uplift,” a grant-funded summer business program for students age 15-18, from June 5-27.

The camp’s organizer, Dr. Sheron Patterson, senior pastor of Highland Hills United Methodist Church, said the goal of the free summer camp is to prepare students for higher education and introduce them to the world of business. Students will focus on marketing and business plans, etiquette and business ethics. They will also take field trips to locations such as the Federal Reserve of Dallas, DFW International Airport and the American Airlines Training Center, and Dallas City Hall.

Camp faculty and counselors were trained by Junior Achievement of Dallas, and will introduce students to CEOs from the Dallas area and around the country. Among the CEOs who will take part in the camp are Josette Golatt, founder of Josette Couture, a leading fashion design company; Johnny Wallace, founder of the AmeriTex Vending Company; Roland Parrish, founder of Parrish McDonald’s Restaurants; Joy Wallace, president and CEO of JOY Foods, Inc.; and Oak Cliff businessman Albert Black, founder of On-Target Supplies and Logistics, Ltd.

For a complete schedule of camp activities, dates of field trips, and a schedule of guest speakers, contact Dr. Sheron Patterson at Highland Hills United Methodist Church 972-225-1096.

The UNT UNT Dallas operates under the authority of the University of North Texas in Denton, the state’s fourth largest university, and is a component institution of the University of North Texas System. The Campus currently offers junior-, senior- and graduate-level courses leading to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The Campus will become freestanding and open as UNT Dallas, the city’s first and only public university, by 2010. UNT Dallas serves as a venue for various community organizations and educational programs independent of the UNT System.
