If you are attending a community college, you are encouraged to plan all your community college course selections well in advance of transferring to UNT Dallas. For your benefit, UNT Dallas participates in the Texas Common Course Numbering System, which makes it easier to transfer credit for general academic courses from one Texas college or university to another.
If you're attending a Texas community college, you should consult the information below and meet with a transfer counselor or academic advisor to discuss the degree plan information in the Undergraduate Catalog.
To be admitted to UNT Dallas from another college or university, submit the ApplyTexas Application for admission and the application fee – $40 for U.S. citizens and permanent resident aliens applying before Fall 2010 ($60 beginning 2010), $75 for international students. You can apply online or send a paper application to the Office of Admissions at UNT Dallas. You must also submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have ever attended — even if you do not wish to transfer the credit to UNT.

If you do not qualify for undergraduate admission according to the chart, you can request admission on an individual review basis.
The individual review procedure enables us to consider additional information regarding your preparedness for university-level study.
Your request must be made prior to the admission deadline for the semester for which you wish to enroll.
Depending on your circumstances, you may be interviewed or asked to submit letters of recommendation, an essay, additional test scores or new college course work.
If we believe you can be successful at UNT Dallas, we will give you the opportunity.
If you do not meet graduate admission requirements, call UNT Dallas at (972) 780-3600 for admission options.
Students seeking an undergraduate degree who were enrolled in a postsecondary institution 10 or more years ago may seek admission to UNT without consideration of that academic work through the Academic Fresh Start program (Texas Education Code Section 51.931).
To take advantage of this option, you must request it prior to your enrollment at UNT by submitting an Academic Fresh Start request form.
Call UNT Dallas at (972) 780-3600 for a form.
You must report and submit all your college transcripts with your application for admission.
For students who were admitted to a Texas public university under the Academic Fresh Start law, earned a bachelor’s degree and now desire to apply for admission to a graduate or professional program, the graduate school will consider only the GPA earned after enrollment under this law, along with the other standard graduate school admissions criteria.
Most UNT Dallas students will have fulfilled the requirements of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) at their community college or at another university. However, students seeking teacher certificates, certifications and endorsements should check with the academic department.
For more information about these requirements call the Program for Academic Readiness office at (940) 565-4403 or visit www.unt.edu/par.
Transcripts are evaluated by the UNT undergraduate or graduate admissions office to determine acceptable transfer credit from other institutions.
An adviser determines the applicability of the credit to your degree, certificate, certification or endorsement program.
For those seeking graduate degrees, the number of permitted transfer hours also depends on the number of required credit hours to complete the degree program.
Take your transcripts to UNT Dallas or the appropriate admissions office.
Some undergraduate courses and/or majors may require a “C” or better for credit and therefore require students who have earned a “D” to retake the course.
A “D” grade equals one grade point per semester hour if it transfers.
Incomplete (“I”) grades will not count against you.
For graduate students, only grades of “C” or better can be used toward a graduate degree.
Subject to general limitations, UNT may accept credit earned through College Level Examination Program (CLEP) subject examinations and College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examinations, credit by examination given at other colleges, and military credit as recommended by the American Council on Education.
For information about credit by examination at UNT, contact UNT Dallas at (972) 780-3600.
No. Grade points earned at other institutions are excluded in the computation of your cumulative GPA at UNT. However, transfer hours accepted are included in determining your classification (junior, senior, graduate student), minimum required level of performance, and for graduation purposes.
If you have questions, contact the adviser for your academic program or a staff person at UNT Dallas.
