How to become a graduate student at the UNT Dallas Campus.

Based on your academic needs, you may apply for graduate admission as either:

  1. A non-degree seeking graduate student: Seeking a teacher or other certification, a graduate academic certificate, an additional bachelor’s degree, or taking a course to improve your knowledge*; or
  2. A degree seeking graduate student: Seeking a master’s or doctoral degree.

To be admitted as a non-degree seeking graduate student, you must:

  1. Have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Have at least a 3.0 grade point average on the last 60 undergraduate credit hours prior to receiving a bachelor’s degree, at least a 2.8 GPA on all undergraduate work, or at least a 3.4 GPA on work for any completed master’s degree.**
  3. Submit an application for graduate admission to the Dallas Campus with the required application fee of $50 ($75 for international students). Your application should be submitted at least two months prior to the semester of enrollment. The graduate application is available at www.gradschool.unt.edu. You may apply online at www.applytexas.org.
  4. Submit official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended. These should be submitted at least two months prior to the semester of enrollment.

* Non-degree seeking graduate students may change to degree-seeking graduate students. Contact an adviser at the Dallas Campus or see the UNT Graduate Catalog for more information.

** Students with lower GPAs may be eligible for admission under certain conditions or if they are seeking a second bachelor’s degree. See the UNT Graduate Catalog for details.

To be admitted as a degree seeking student, you must:

  1. Comply with items 1-4 above.
  2. Submit an acceptable score on the appropriate standardized exam to UNT’s Toulouse School of Graduate Studies. Business students should submit an acceptable score on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).***

*** Many programs will provisionally admit students who have not yet completed or not obtained a satisfactory score on these required exams. Contact your department of interest or see the Graduate Catalog for more information.

Only written notice from the dean of the School of Graduate Studies constitutes admission acceptance. Correspondence with department chairs or faculty members does not imply admission to the graduate school.

Transferring credits earned

The UNT graduate admissions office evaluates transcripts from other institutions
to determine acceptable transfer credit. An adviser determines the applicability of the
credit to your degree, certificate or endorsement program.

For those seeking graduate degrees, the number of permitted transfer hours also depends on the number of required credit hours to complete the degree program. Take your transcripts to the UNT Dallas Campus or the appropriate admissions office in Denton. For graduate students, only grades of C or better can be used toward a graduate degree.
