VolUNTeer League is a student-run leadership board that involves students in community service and social action, through providing alternative breaks, campus-wide service programs and on-going community service opportunities. The VolUNTeer League Leadership Board is comprised of leadership teams which all work to provide the overall direction of the VolUNTeer League.

The general requirements that all Board members must commit to include:

VolUNTeer League Student Coordinators

The VolUNTeer League Student Coordinators serve as the contact for VolUNTeer League. They are responsible for uniting the VolUNTeer League Leadership Board and increasing the movement of service at UNT by facilitating VolUNTeer League Leadership Board meetings and retreats. They serve as the liaison between the Center for Leadership & Service and other organizations and participate in marketing activities. The Student Coordinators meet weekly with Board teams to facilitate the community service projects, as well as planning the bi-weekly VolUNTeer League meetings.

Alternative Service Breaks

Alternative Breaks are immersive living and working experiences that take place over the week of spring break, weekends and summer break. Students perform necessary services and explore the culture and history of the area. They also address the need for students to become involved in thoughtful action towards the resolution of these social issues. This team of students will make trips possible by recruiting service sites and housing and recruiting and training Alternative Break Site Leaders. The team will recruit participants and advertise for alternative breaks programs, including public relations, presentations at student organizations and will oversee the logistics and fundraising for Alternative Spring Breaks.

GREEN Days of Service

GREEN Days are large, one-day community service opportunities, such as Make a Difference Day and MLK day of Service. Green Days of Service coordinates on-campus service programs, such as Sr. Citizen Prom and Hunger Awareness Week events. These one-time projects are an integral part of the VolUNTeer League. All of these programs are designed to spark interest in long-term involvement in community service and social action. This team will recruit student organizations to sponsor events, develop service projects and oversee the projects including developing committees, recruiting participants and planning kick-off ceremonies.

EAGLES SERVE (Students Engaged in Reflective Volunteer Experiences)

Eagles SERVE links small groups of students with an area agency for weekly service throughout the semester. Weekly activities are based on the needs of the agency and allow students to understand community organizations and the deeper societal issues surrounding this work. This team will recruit sites and site leaders to facilitate on-going service. They will create and market a calendar of opportunities for students to get connected to each other and the community.

Applications are due September 4, 2009 for the VolUNTeer League!
