Alumni records are maintained in the Office of Development, and most information contained in these records is available for faculty use. Mailing labels can be generated for many cross-sections of alumni.
Faculty members may cash checks for a limited amount and small fee at the Information Center in the University Union. Checks may be cashed at the Bursar's Department, located in the Eagle Student Services Building, without charge from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (schedule subject to change). Check amounts will be limited to $200 per check with some exceptions for UNT travel checks.
Child_and_Family_Resource_Clinic
The Child and Family Resource Clinic (CFRC) is an interdisciplinary diagnostic and remedial clinic serving children, adults, and families from the North Texas Area. Services offered include interdisciplinary assessment, counseling, reading instruction, speech and language therapy and parent education classes. The counselors at the clinic are trained to conduct play therapy, parent consultations, individual therapy, family therapy and marriage counseling. Fees for all services are based on a sliding scale. The clinic is a division of the College of Education at the University of North Texas and provides clinical training opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students in counselor education, reading, and speech/language/hearing.
The Child Development Laboratory in the College of Education offers a developmentally appropriate preschool program for children 3, 4 and 5 years of age. Additionally, it serves as a laboratory and training center for early childhood and child development students and provides opportunities for research by graduate students and faculty.
The National Association accredits the Child Development Laboratory for the Education of Young Children. Morning and afternoon sessions are available five days per week. Children may be enrolled for the whole day. A supervised lunch program is available.
Counseling_and_Human_Development_Center
The Counseling and Human Development Center serves a dual purpose of providing individual, marital, family and play therapy to clients from Denton and the surrounding Metroplex area as well as being an educational training facility for students in the counselor education program.
The center is operated and staffed by faculty and graduate students in the Department of Counseling, Development, and Higher Education and has some of the most up-to-date audiovisual equipment currently in use for training counselors. There is a minimal charge for counseling services.
Biofeedback_Research_and_Training_Laboratory
Graduate counselors-in-training provides biofeedback treatment of a variety of stress-related disorders under counselor education faculty supervision. The counselors are preparing to become nationally certified as biofeedback therapists. Services are provided on a sliding scale fee basis.
The Psychology Clinic staff provides professional psychological services to residents of Denton County as well as surrounding areas including the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Services include individual psychotherapy for adults, adolescents and children; marital, family and group therapy; intellectual, psychological, neuropsychological and vocational evaluations; and community services such as seminars, workshops and consultation.
Fees for services are charged based on a sliding scale according to gross income and number of dependents. Appointments are available during evening as well as daytime hours.
The Speech and Hearing Center, open during the academic year to all UNT students and Denton area children and adults, provides professional assistance in evaluating and remediating disorders of articulation, language, voice and fluency. Services also include audiological tests and aural rehabilitation for persons with impaired hearing.
Services are free to enrolled students, but fees for services are charged to families and dependents of faculty, staff and students of the university based on a sliding scale according to gross income and number of dependents.
The American Association of University Professors, the Texas Association of College Teachers and the Texas Faculty Association maintain chapters on the UNT campus. In addition, there is a local guild of the Texas United Faculty. These organizations are open to all faculty members and work toward the improvement of faculty compensation and working conditions.
The UNT League for Professional Women is open to men and women faculty and professional staff. The league sponsors a variety of programs, participates in Women's Fortnight in the spring, awards two $250 scholarships to an outstanding female graduate and undergraduate student each year and provides numerous opportunities for networking among professional women.
University Women is the organization that wives of male faculty, women faculty and staff members may join. A number of social events are held each year, and interest groups meet frequently for their mutual concerns. Of particular note is the Newcomers Group, which brings new faculty members together for a number of social events each year.
Gifts and donations to UNT may be made directly to the university or to the UNT Foundation, Inc. One should contact the Development Office for counsel and direction on the solicitation of gifts and grants from private sources, including gifts of cash, planned gifts or gifts-in-kind.
All gifts and donations must be processed through the Development Office so they may be recorded and appropriately acknowledged.
The Health Center provides medical care to students paying the student medical services fee for the current semester. Services for faculty and staff are limited and include treatment for job-related accidents, blood pressure checks and flu shots.
Arrangements can be made with the Health Center to provide medical services for participants of university-sponsored programs. If participants are under 18 years of age, they must furnish the Health Center with a medical release signed by a parent or guardian. All arrangements must be made in advance of the program.
The ID Plus Account is a pre-paid cash account available for use in many commercial areas on campus (Union food service, UNT Book Store, Athletic Department, Health Center, etc.). Every ID cardholder has an account that may be activated by adding to their ID Plus balance at either the Union Information Center or Dining Services. A minimum deposit of $25 is required. Use of the account entitles the holder to discounts at many participating locations.
Free faculty identification cards are available to any employee who is eligible for retirement benefits, and are distributed through departmental offices. These cards are to be used whenever identification is requiredchecking out library books, reserving athletic facilities, cashing checks, purchasing tickets, etc. Departmental offices may request lost card replacement and cards may be picked up at the ID Card Office located in Stovall Hall. There is no charge for replacement cards.
The Sullivant Visitor Center, 902 Avenue E, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and serves as a central agency for campus information. Visitors as well as UNT personnel and students may receive information concerning campus locations, events and parking areas. Additionally, admission and registration information materials are available.
The Information Booth, Avenue D next to the Coliseum, is open 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Staff assists in directing members of the university community and visitors regarding locations and specialized sources of information and service.
The Union Information Center, located on the third level near the southwest entrance of the Union, is open during normal building hours. Information concerning campus events is available along with services such as check cashing, locker rentals and lost-and-found assistance. ID Plus Cards, yearbooks and tickets to local and university functions are available for purchase.
Students may also be referred to the After-hours Assistance Table provided at the west UNT Book Store entrance to assistant evening and weekend students with routine university business and to the Information Desk in the Eagle Students Services Building.
A faculty member may obtain keys to buildings, offices and other facilities upon written authorization of the department chair, dean or other designated key authorizer.
Keys are not transferable from one faculty member or employee to another and must be returned to Key Control when no longer needed. Records on keys are maintained in the Physical Plant. The Physical Plant periodically checks its records with departments and individuals.
The Vice Chancellor and General Counsel's Office provides legal services for the university.
Faculty members who require maintenance assistance should notify their chair or dean, designated building representative or the Physical Plant director. If the department or school is to be charged for the maintenance, the chair or dean must approve the charges. For emergency maintenance after normal working hours or on weekends, contact the Physical Plant Standby.
Faculty members may have documents notarized free of charge in the Admissions Office, Controller's Office, Registrar's Office, Human Resources Office, Financial Aid Office and Payroll Office.
Office hours for the University of North Texas are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Check with specific offices for their current schedule.
The University Physical Plant has the mission of aiding in the creation of facilities, maintaining and operating facilities, and providing services.
A faculty member becomes involved in the maintenance and operation of the campus when he or she acquires keys to various offices and buildings, seeks to bring about repairs of campus facilities, and needs special equipment or routine supplies and equipment.
Most supplies, materials, equipment and services are purchased through academic departments unless the individual faculty member has research or other non-departmental funds. Most acquisitions of materials or services must be done under State of Texas statutes and rules, which are fully explained in the UNT Policy Manual, Vol. II, #4.0. Assistance with specific problems is available from the Purchasing Office, University Services Building
Academic space for use by university classes is scheduled by the Registrar's Office. The coordinator of facilities and special events schedules activities other than university classes.
The purpose of the University Police Department is the protection of life, property, individual rights and freedoms and provision of a safe and secure environment to create a positive atmosphere where meaningful learning can take place.
Located in the Sullivant Visitor Center at 902 Avenue E, the department operates 24 hours each day. The department is responsible for the enforcement of state and local laws, as well as university rules and regulations. It also offers such services as crime prevention programs, criminal investigation, escort services, shuttle bus transportation, and parking and visitor information.
The UNT Book Store, located in the University Union, is owned and operated by Follett. The university receives a percentage of the profits generated from its operation.
The UNT Book Store is responsible for the textbook adoption process. All questions concerning textbook adoption are handled through the store. The Textbook Adoption Policy and the Policy for Supplementary Textbook Materials are discussed in Section III, Instructional Activities in this Handbook and in the UNT Policy Manual, Vol. III, #19.8.
Additionally, the UNT Book Store offers supplies, office products, clothing, UNT memorabilia, general books, greeting cards, gift items and much more. A "Special Order" service for books and items not in inventory at the store also is available.
The UNT Book Store is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. At the beginning of each semester, the store's hours are expanded to meet the increased demands.
