Scholarships_to_Promote_Staff_Development
The university provides scholarships to eligible faculty, staff, retirees, and dependents criteria for eligibility for the scholarships and applications may be found in the Bursar's Office.
Full-time or part-time leaves of absence without pay may be granted to members of the faculty for study, research, writing, convalescence or other suitable purpose at the discretion and upon the approval of the President for a period not to exceed one year. Such leaves may be extended for an additional year by the approval of the President. Leaves for a period to exceed two years may not be granted without prior approval of the Board of Regents.
Faculty who wish to apply for leave without pay should initiate a Faculty Application for Approval of Leave to the department chair, who makes a recommendation to the dean, thence, when appropriate, to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and to the President.
State universities in Texas have no system of sabbatical leaves. Instead, there is a system of faculty development leaves for the purpose of study, research, writing, field observations or other purposes related to professional growth. An elected Faculty Development Leave Committee recommends candidates, through channels, to the President in each year that funds are available. The Faculty Development Leave Policy is explained fully in the UNT Policy Manual, Vol. III, #15.1.11 and the form is in Section VII-5.
Undergraduate_Instructional_Development_Grants
Undergraduate instructional development grants are intended to support faculty in systematic and lasting improvement in the quality of undergraduate teaching. Up to six grants may be awarded annually by the university with a Faculty Senate committee recommending the recipients. Faculty members with temporary or terminal appointments are not eligible. Those faculty members wishing to enter the competition may secure an application form from the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Teaching,_Research,_and_Service_Awards
Several awards are made annually to UNT faculty to recognize outstanding teaching, research and/or service contributions. These awards usually are announced at the Faculty Convocation (fall) and at the Honors Convocation (spring). A description of each award and a list of recipients can be found in the current UNT catalogs, for graduate under Award Recipients and for undergraduate under Award Recipients.
