Computing and Information Technology Center

Central Information Technology services in support of instruction, research and administrative information systems are provided through the Computing and Information Technology Center located at the UNT Research Park. Academic Computing Services, located in the Information Sciences Building, provides support for a wide range of hardware and software resources as well as training, consulting and information services. Administrative Information Systems is responsible for the management of the Enterprise Information System (EIS), including the student data systems, the human resource information, as well as fiscal, advancement, admissions and other systems.

Access to information resources is supported through campus-wide fiber optic-based local area networks (LANs). Faculty and students can gain access to central academic and administrative systems via microcomputers in the departmental or general access computing labs.

Academic Computing Services provides support for numerous microcomputer-based statistical analysis applications. A wide variety of discounted and site-licensed microcomputer software is available to faculty for use on office microcomputers. In addition, a microcomputer lab featuring adaptive hardware and software, which is part of the General Access Lab System, is available for use by all students and faculty. This lab, and other general access labs on campus, house PC and Macintosh computers as well as laser printers. The labs provide access to a wide range of microcomputer applications in support of students' academic activities.

Consulting and training services are provided by Academic Computing Services to facilitate the use centrally-supported computing resources. A series of short courses is offered each semester to allow faculty to gain the expertise for effective use of the information resources in support of research and instruction. An extensive set of computer-based training programs is accessible via the campus network. Should problems arise, experienced consultants are available to assist faculty in troubleshooting. Benchmarks, the Computing Center's online newsjournal, is published monthly and highlights the Information Technology developments within the CITC and on campus. For more information, see http://www.unt.edu/ccadmin.

Center_for_Media_Production_(CMP)

The Center for Media Production is a professional media production center that serves the entire campus community. CMP offers a full range of products and services in support of classroom instruction, research, distributive learning, professional presentation, promotion and advertising.

CMP features graphics, photography, audio, video, multi-media and Streaming media production all in one location.

The center is a cost-recoverable unit and operates on a fee-for-service basis. All CMP products and services are produced by, or under the direct supervision of the full-time staff.

The center is located in room 211 of Chilton Hall. For additional information logon to: www.cmp.unt.edu.

Conference_Services

A faculty member who wishes to arrange a conference should contact the Center for Continuing Education and Conference Management. The CCE/CM provides logistical support such as assistance in scheduling sites, arranging food services and housing, and assisting with mailings, receiving registrations, etc. CCE/CM also makes appropriate arrangements for scheduling youth camps and professional and honor societies.

Classroom_Support_Services_and_Micro_Maintenance

Two critical areas of support for faculty are combined under the directorship of one person, who serves both as Director of Classroom Support Services (CSS) and Director of the Microcomputer Maintenance Shop (MMS). The combined operation generally covers the hardware side of electronic support while network managers and departments such as the Center for Media Production and the Media Library supply creative and software support. CSS provides and maintains audiovisual equipment projectors, video players, and screens for UNT's general purpose ("110" and "210") classrooms. Support is generally available when classes are in session, including evenings. MMS assembles and maintains microcomputers and supported peripheral equipment for all UNT areas. See www.mms.unt.edu and www.css.unt.edu for additional information.

Parking and_Traffic_Regulations

Parking arrangements are made annually with the Parking Office. Regulations specify that no student, faculty or staff member may park a motor vehicle in areas under university jurisdiction between the hours of 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. on weekdays without displaying a parking permit or paying appropriate fees. Parking spaces may not be subleased without prior authorization from the Parking Office. Parking classifications include reserved parking, restricted parking, metered parking and garage parking.

A parking guide/map with regulations and procedures is available at the Parking Office. The University Police Department enforces the State Traffic and Penal Code, applicable city ordinances of Denton, traffic and parking regulations of the university, and all other laws of the state.

Questions concerning parking and parking ticket appeals may be directed to the Parking Office. Parking policy is developed by a University Parking and Traffic Committee, and parking ticket appeals are referred to a University Parking Appeals Board composed of faculty/staff/students.

Request_for_Approval_of_Travel

If a faculty member intends to seek reimbursement for travel, a Request for Approval of Travel form must be filled out in advance of departure. The Request for Approval of Travel is signed by the account-holder of the funds covering the trip. The form is sent to the Claims Accounting Department, Travel Section. (See Section VII-11 for a sample of this form.)

Travel_Vouchers

A faculty member files a claim for travel reimbursement by filling out a travel voucher. These vouchers must be accurately completed and must justify the travel in terms of its benefits to the State of Texas. A voucher requesting reimbursement for a trip that includes any expenses covered by state contract (airfare, lodging or rental car) must have a Travel Management Compliance Certification form. Detailed regulations may be found in the UNT Policy Manual, Vol. II, #2.1.15 and the State Controller's Travel Guidelines. It is prudent for the novice to consult with well-traveled colleagues when filing a voucher for the first time.

Supplemental_Travel_Allocations

Each year the President makes available to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs' Office funds from private donations that augment faculty travel funds. These funds are awarded four times a year (appropriate due dates announced) to support travel to national, international and some regional meetings at which the faculty member is presenting a paper or is otherwise significantly involved in the program. The full policy can be found in the UNT Policy Manual, Vol. III, #15.1.19. Detailed information is distributed to all faculty members each fall. The form for making application can be found in Section VII-12.

International_Travel

International travel, subject to reimbursement by any funds at UNT, requires advance approval of the governor. (This restriction does not apply to travel to Canada or Mexico.) Consult the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

University_Corporate_Credit_Card_Program

All traveling employees are requested to file an application to receive a University Corporate Credit Card that is to be used only for reimbursable state expenses. This card is necessary for obtaining state-negotiated airline rates. Applications are available in the Claims Accounting Department Travel Section. Advanced payment of registration fees can be accomplished through a purchase order.

University_Station_Wagons_and_Vans

University station wagons and vans may only be used for the mass transportation of numbers of people in compliance with H.B. No. 2, 61st Legislature. Arrangements for their use may be made with the Physical Plant.
