Research
At UNT students discover the power of ideas each day. Ideas are the foundation of knowledge and the catalyst for change and advancement. And UNT's faculty and student scholars seek to understand, to advance human knowledge and to tackle society's challenges by exploring and nurturing ideas.
This exploration is the foundation for a bold research agenda that will expand our strengths in science and technology while continuing to build our nationally and internationally recognized programs in music, art and the humanities. It also will support our tradition of developing teachers and reaching out to make a difference in our communities through applied research.
The university's 60 research centers and institutes allow students to gain hands-on experience through collaborative work with faculty members.
UNT’s Discovery Park , a 285-acre research park about 4 miles north of campus, is home to the University’s College of Engineering and School of Library Science; and includes state-of-the-art laboratories and plans for business incubators for easy technology transfer. Discovery Park also houses the Center for Advanced Research and Technology, one of the nation’s premier materials science and engineering research facilities. The center received $15.7 million in defense funding during the last four years for its research. CART provides researchers with access to a unique grouping of high-powered microscopes and some of the most sophisticated tools for exploring nanotechnology and other critical fields for advancement.
