MAC Operating System OS 8.6 to 9.2
These instructions will guide you through the process
of installing and configuring your wireless ethernet adapter.
These instructions are intended for MAC Operating System OS 8.6
to 9.2. These software versions support Airport software, and
this document will assist in configuring this sofware.
Step 1 - You must have the following to complete
the installation
A. MAC Operating System OS 8.6 to 9.2 installed
on your MacIntosh Computer.
B. An 802.11b device.
C. The Installation Disk for your 802.11b device.
Step 2 - Install the 802.11b device.
The 802.11b device must be installed in your computer.
The device will either be plugged into an available PCMCIA slot
or attached via a USB cable to your MacIntosh.
- Some MACS have built in Airport or AirPort Extreme Cards.
If so the setup is different than if you were using a "third
party" device.
Step 3 - Install the AirPort Setup Assistant or
software for a "Third Party" device"
- AirPort Cards - The following steps apply if you are using
an AirPort or AirPort Extreme device.
- Determine if the Airport Configuration Utility Is Installed
- Open the Applications folder on
your hard drive, then Apple Extras.
Double-click the AirPort folder.
- If AirPort Assistant appears as a File you can move
to Step 4.
- If you do not have the software, see the AirPort
download page on Apple's Web site and obtain the version
appropriate for your operating system.
- Install the AirPort Software.
- ReStart your computer.
- Third Party Cards - The following steps apply if you are
using a "Third Party" device.
- Insert the CD Rom Installation Disk and Double Click
the Installer
- Follow the OnScreen Instructions. Refer to the "third
party" documentation if you need assistance.
- You will Need to Configure Your TCP/IP Settings in Step

Step 4 - AirPort Setup Utility
- Double-click the Applications folder on your hard drive,
then Apple Extras. Then, double-click the AirPort folder,
then on AirPort Setup Assistant.
- Select Set up your computer to join an existing AirPort
network, then click the right arrow icon in the lower right
corner.
- Wait for the network scan to be completed. If you are within
a wireless coverage area on campus, this program should detect
a network named eaglenet.
- Select Go Ahead
- After Connection is Established select Quit
Step 5 - Configure Your Network Settings
NOTE: If you were able to attach to the eaglenet
network in Step 4 you can skip to Step 6, as your device is configured
properly.
- Open the AirPort Application
- Select the Apple Menu, then Select
AirPort.
- Click the small triangle to the left of Settings
to display more options.
- If the AirPort is not enabled, click Turn AirPort
On
- Click the Choose network drop-down menu,
then select eaglenet.
- If eaglenet is not a listed network you may have
one of the following problems.
- Your AirPort card may not be installed correctly.
- You may not be near an access point on the eaglenet
network.
Step 6- Configure Your TCP/IP Settings
- Open the AirPort Application
- Select the Apple Menu, then Select
AirPort.
- Select the File menu and click Open
TCP/IP to open that Control Panel
- Click the Connect via drop-down menu and
select AirPort (or another wireless adapter you're
using).
- Click the Configure drop-down menu and select Using DHCP
Server.
- ** Be Sure to fill in the DHCP Client ID Field-This is simply a name you might call your machine [ie. MyMAC]
- Add wireless.unt.edu into the Search Domain text box.
- When you're finished changing your network settings, save the configuration.
- Close the TCP/IP Control Panel and restart your computer if prompted.
