Dr. Moen's research activities include a range of studies and projects. Current and recent research studies are listed below. MARC Content Designation Utilization (MCDU). (2005-2007) Analyzing MARC Content Designation Utilization (2003-) As part of the Z39.50 Interoperability Testbed, we did an initial analysis of the frequency of use of MARC 21 content designation in a set of 400,000 MARC records from OCLC's WorldCat database. This work has become the basis for a request for funding form the U.S. Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services National Leadership Grant for Libraries Program (submitted Feb. 1, 2004). The initial results were presented in a paper at the 2003 Dublin Core Conference
The
Bath Profile The Texas Z39.50
Implementors Group (TZIG) and the Z Texas Initiative This project
brings together librarians from across Texas to identify requirements and agree on
specification for using Z39.50. The result of this effort will be a Z39.50 profile.
Implementations supporting this profile will provide users with better distributed access
to Texas library catalogs and other resources. Moen developed a discussion paper for the
participants of the organizational meeting (August 18, 1998 in Austin) of the Texas Z39.50
Implementors Group (TZIG). The Texas State Library is hosting the TZIG website <http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/LD/z3950/ >.
