Caring, critical, committed faculty members are invested in nurturing innovative art educators.Our dedicated art education learning and teaching spaces include two large art studios, three computer labs, a workshop and a visual resources library.Through our work with local school districts, you will observe how art teachers work with and use available resources in actual school settings.UNT offers unique opportunities to collaborate with the African American Museum, Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Crow Museum of Asian Art, Dallas Museum of Art, Kimbell Art Museum, Meadows Museum, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and the Greater Denton Arts Council.The College of Visual Arts and Design is one of the nation's most comprehensive visual arts schools and one of the best in the Southwest.The UNT Art Gallery offers 2,500 square feet of exhibition space with a permanent collection of 182 works and a lending collection of 974 works.What Can You do With an Art Education Degree?The B.F.A. in Art Education prepares you for a career working as an art teacher at the early childhood-, elementary-, middle- or high-school-levels as well as for careers in community art programs and other educational facilities.
Training also may be applied to careers with nonprofit arts organizations and serve as a foundation for advanced study in related fields, such as museum education.
Students wishing to graduate with a degree in Art Education without a K-12 art teaching certification may inquire about doing so, in advisement with the department.
Art Education: Foundations (3 hrs)Introduction to the field of art education.Art Education: Elementary Art Education Practices (3 hrs)Child development theory and creativity examined in relation to contemporary practice in the elementary art classroom.Art Education: Secondary Art Education Practices (3 hrs)Preadolescent and adolescent creative development and theory examined in relation to contemporary art-making practice in the secondary art classroom.Art Education: Global Aesthetics (3 hrs)Cross-cultural examination of philosophical aesthetic issues in art, focusing on the relationship of art to culture.Art Education: Computer Art Applications (3 hrs)Exploration of the role of computers as a tool in visual arts studies.
