This STEM-designated degree program provides students with an understanding of business fundamentals and the in-depth knowledge of statistical analysis and modeling methods, tools and techniques to help convert data into actionable insights. Our graduates pursue careers in data science, data analytics, data mining and financial analytics at Fortune 500 companies, medium and small business and nonprofit organizations. This degree qualifies an F-1 student for a STEM OPT extension.

The department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences offers regularly scheduled tutoring sessions during the fall and spring semesters to ensure your academic success.

Networking opportunities are available through the student chapter of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the Association for Information Systems student chapter and the Professional Leadership Program.

Management Science (3 hrs)Introduction to operations research for business decision making. Spreadsheet methods are used to evaluate the following

deterministic models, allocation problems, linear programming, sequencing and scheduling and network models.

Enterprise Applications of Business Intelligence/Analytics (3 hrs)

Current issues in the utilization of business intelligence/analytics (BI/A) in organizations. Topics include the concepts, methodologies and tools to efficiently and effectively implement BI/A endeavors. The focus is on understanding how BI/A is needed and used in organizations today and how to resolve the often conflicting variety of BI/A offerings.

Modeling for Business Intelligence (3 hrs)

How modeling for business intelligence systems can be utilized as a key element within a managerial decision process. Attention is paid to how and why such a model is used in a BI support system environment.

Introduction to Data Mining (3 hrs)

Knowledge discovery in large databases, using data mining tools and techniques. Topics include data exploration, modeling and model evaluation. Decision making in a case-embedded business environment is emphasized.

Analytics for Decision Making (3 hrs)

Study of the analytics that underlie the process of decision making and the information requirements of decisions; decision support tool selection, process improvement and applications development.

Introduction to Data Warehousing (3 hrs)

Investigates model-based approaches to the design of data warehouses. Examines their critical role in decision systems for business and industry.
