Students awarded the Master of Science with a major in accounting are simultaneously awarded the Bachelor of Science with a major in accounting. (The Bachelor of Science with a major in accounting is not awarded separately.)In the Department of Accounting, we help you learn the skills that allow you to critically appraise situations, act responsibly and ethically, and become a strategic thinker and problem solver.

The combined B.S./M.S. program allows you to earn two degrees simultaneously, and it meets the 150-hour requirement for the Certified Public Accountant exam in Texas and many other states. You also can earn academic credit while participating in an internship.What Can You do With a Combined Accounting Degree?

Many of our graduates work as top executives in national public accounting firms, Fortune 500 companies or government agencies and have even started their own businesses. In the accounting profession, you can pursue careers including:

  • Certified public accountant — conducting audits for local, regional or international firms
  • Corporate accountant — generating information for managerial decision-making
  • Forensic accountant — helping the FBI, Department of Homeland Security or IRS conduct criminal investigations
  • Internal auditor — helping an enterprise function more efficiently
  • Tax planner — formulating tax strategies for individuals and businesses
Accounting Principles I - Financial Accounting (3 hrs.):External uses of accounting information; interpretation of accounting data; analysis of financial statements; income and cash flow analysis; nature of assets and liabilities; understanding accounting reporting process.Data Analysis with Spreadsheets (3 hrs.):Collection, description and analysis of numerical data. Data presentation, tables, charts and graphs, descriptive statistics, analysis of time series and index numbers, sampling techniques and distributions, estimation, confidence intervals, with applications in quality control and productivity.Business Calculus (3 hrs.):Differential and integral calculus with emphasis on applications to business.Introduction to Data Mining (3 hrs.):Knowledge discovery in large databases, using data mining tools and techniques.
